GENEALOGY: FOLLOWING THE PAPER and DNA TRAIL - (Winter)

This class is for beginners and experienced genealogists. Beginners will be guided in the construction of building their family tree, while experienced genealogists will be provided the support, they need to break down brick walls. Most of the class time will be spent working on the computer and getting individual support as you need it. Topics will cover getting started, websites and resources, research techniques and tips, using various records, utilizing maps, timelines and historical context, using military, immigration and naturalization records, citations and documentation, and doing collateral research using the FAN club.
This class will also guide you through building your genetic family tree utilizing your DNA matches on Ancestry.com Learn how to interpret your DNA results, color-code your matches, use your “cousin” matches to verify and extend your family tree, solve unexpected DNA matches, and learn what else you can do with your DNA results. Please bring a notebook and a binder with divider tabs for the handouts along with a $5 lab fee to be paid to the instructor.
