BASIC ALTERATIONS AND GARMENT REPAIR

Calendar Mar 19, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 3 weeks

Apply your sewing skills in a useful way by learning to perform basic clothing care such as replacing buttons, zippers, hemming and taking in/letting out simple garments.  Students should bring 2-3 garments that need alterations or repairs.  It is best if these garments are the students own so that fittings may be done during class; these can be store bought items or homemade garments in progress.  Students will receive a folder of alteration and repair information and machine bobbins.  Bring a $10 lab fee to be paid to the instructor.  LIMIT 8

CROCHET – BEGINNING

Calendar Mar 4, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 4 weeks

In this class, we will cover pattern reading and basic crochet stitches including the foundation chain, single, double, half-double, and triple crochet stitches. Possible projects include coasters, dishcloths and a scarf. Bring H, I and/or J crochet hook, and one ball of any color "Lily Sugar-n-Cream/Peaches-n- Cream" yarn to the first class. Additional yarn and materials needed will be discussed in class. All instructions and patterns are written for right-handed crochet.

SEWING BASICS

Calendar Feb 5, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 3 weeks

Students will learn common sewing terminology, basic machine skills and how to follow project instructions.  Students will receive a folder of basic sewing information, project materials and machine bobbins.  Each student will sew six seam finishing technique samples, make a decorative pillowcase and make a mini tote bag (an additional project of the instructor's choice may be offered if time permits).  Machines are available for your use.  Please bring a basic sewing kit to class that includes sharp scissors, straight pins, a seam ripper, a small ruler and white thread.  Bring a $15 lab fee to be paid to the instructor. LIMIT 8

SEWING INTERMEDIATE

Calendar Feb 26, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 3 weeks

This class will build on the skills taught in basic sewing by covering simple zipper installation, patchwork piecing, stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, bias tape application, decorative stitching and buttonhole sewing.  Student will receive a folder of intermediate sewing information, project materials and machine bobbins.  Each student will sew a zippered pouch, a placemat and a drawstring bag (an additional project of instructor's choice may be provided if time permits).  Machines are available for your use.  Please bring a basic sewing kit to class that includes sharp scissors, straight pins, safety pins, a seam ripper, a small ruler and white thread.  Bring a $15 lab fee to be paid to the instructor LIMIT 8

SWEDISH WEAVING

Calendar Apr 11, 2019 at 6 pm, runs for 4 weeks

To begin a Swedish weave project, all you need is yarn, weaving needle, a pattern, and monk’s cloth. That’s it! It is so easy to learn and simple to do which makes it the best needlecraft ever! Students will create a holiday themed table runner approximately 60" L x 22" W. Bring a $17 lab fee to be paid to instructor to cover materials. Weaving needles will be supplied and available to purchase for an additional fee if desired.  Homework may be required for this class.
